Allens Training National Conference 2018
Allens Training National Conference 2018 was a resounding success. Hosted in Caloundra at the Oaks Oasis resort, the conference attracted Allens Training trainers from far afield. The location showcased the best of the Sunshine Coast, allowing attendees a glimpse of what life is like where it is beautiful one day, perfect the next.
The conference theme, the future is here … heralded the opening of a new era for Allens Training and their Partners.
Speakers from a range of organisations gave presentations on a variety of subjects, all designed to support, encourage, enlighten, educate, and entertain. Keynote speakers included body language expert Allan Pease, who talked about communicating for success, and Dr Michael Eburn – Associate Professor, School of Legal Practice, ANU College of Law – who delivered a session on legal considerations in first aid, with content on first aid and the Coroner, first aid and work health and safety law, and a range of other related topics.
Other highlights of the conference included clinical presentations from Jason Davis, Paramedic Specialist with Qld Ambulance Service on the important topics of asthma and anaphylaxis, blood clotting, shockable rhythms, beyond the emergency, and spinal injuries.
Leonie Hogarth from Epilepsy Qld broadened attendees’ knowledge of epilepsy when she presented on definitions of epilepsy and seizures, classification and treatment of seizures, the medication Midazolam and how to administer it.
A thought-provoking presentation was given by Angie De Falco, Director and Founder of Adopt-A-Defib. Angie’s presentation provided a higher level of understanding of human factors, a complex field that studies the properties of human-human and human-machine interaction. Her contention is that more positive outcomes can result from improving non-technical skills by optimising teamwork, decision-making, and effective communication and situational awareness.
Attendees not only gained much valuable information to assist with their training, but also had valuable opportunities to connect with other Allens Training trainers, benefiting from different perspectives and different experiences.
The smiles on the faces in the photos reflected how enjoyable the conference was for all those present, and some are already making plans to attend the next one.
